The Accident and Incident Investigation Division (AIID) of the South African Civil Aviation Authority has formally approved the South African Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (SAHPA) to conduct accident investigations relating specifically to PG/HG operations.
This delegation of investigative authority recognises SAHPA’s domain expertise and operational oversight within the sector.

This table describes the status of all fatal accidents.
Please note:
- Non-fatal accidents are not investigated.
- SAHPA was only given the formal approval to investigate accidents in on the 8th March 2023.
- All accidents prior to May 2023 were referred to AIID, unfortunately very few of these were investigated.
