Fatal Paragliding Accident near Citrusdal

On the afternoon of Friday 22nd March 2024, a 37 year old recreational paraglider pilot visiting from Gauteng died of his injuries after an accident near Citrusdal. Metro EMS responded, and the rescue was co-ordinated by the Aeronautical Rescue Co-ordination Centre (ARCC).

The pilot was participating in an event organised by the Glen Paragliding Club taking place at the Kardoesie launch site. The cause of the accident is not yet known. Witness statements will be interviewed and the matter will be investigated to understand the contributing factors.

SAHPA may not disclose the identity of the pilot, nor speculate on the cause of the accident.
